Importance of Licensing
Security cameras are regulated by state law, primarily by Chapter 1702 of the Texas Occupations Code. Texas state law requires that technicians and companies who service or install a security camera system must hold a security license issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety, Private Security Bureau. Texas DPS requires security companies to perform background checks, carry insurance policies, and to obtain continuing education.
We sometimes see installations performed by unlicensed vendors. Using an unlicensed vendor places your organization at risk as none of the state-required consumer protections are provided. To offer or provide a service required to be licensed without a license carries criminal penalties of up to a year in jail and a $4,000.00 fine. Hiring or employing an unlicensed company/person also carries this penalty.
